Poland’s Tech Sector Sees Rapid Growth Following Ukraine War
Warsaw, March 19, 2026 – Poland’s technology sector has experienced significant growth, driven in part by the influx of Ukrainian IT professionals and business relocation following the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to the Reinvantage IT Competitiveness Index 2026, Poland now ranks third globally, fourth in Eastern Europe, and boasts 1,251 startups – representing 12% of the region’s total. The sector’s expansion has been bolstered by programs like Poland.Business Harbour and Poland Prize, aimed at attracting foreign entrepreneurs.
Notably, Poland has 11 unicorns, accounting for 3.8% of the EU total, with a target of 20 by 2030. The integration of Ukrainian war refugees has provided a valuable, skilled talent pool, addressing domestic labor shortages. In 2024, ICT specialists comprised 4.5% of employment, up from 4.3% in 2023, and the sector’s exports rose to 2.14% of GDP.
Average gross ICT salaries increased by 54% since 2020 to 3,124 euros. Employment in the sector has grown to 671,000, up from 445,750 in 2020. Despite this growth, challenges remain.
The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) 2025 indicates Poland lags EU averages in digital public services. Furthermore, the percentage of female ICT specialists has decreased slightly. Addressing domestic labor shortages through initiatives like employee stock ownership plans is a priority.
The sector’s performance is particularly strong in Talent and IT Infrastructure. However, there are areas for improvement, including Economic Impact and Future Technologies. Poland’s tech sector’s trajectory will depend on its ability to sustain this momentum beyond the current geopolitical circumstances.
