Emerging Europe and the next wave of growth: The Asia–Americas century

Global economic growth is increasingly centered along a new axis linking Asia and the Americas, a shift that is redefining global commerce and investment patterns. Historically dominated by the Atlantic corridor, the global economic focus is now spreading across the Pacific, linking Asia’s industrial scale with the financial and technological power of the Americas. Data supports this transition.

The IMF projects robust growth for developing Asia in 2026, with India expected to grow around seven percent. Developing Asia attracted $644 billion in foreign direct investment in 2025, representing nearly 40% of the global total. This convergence creates a dynamic where the Asian side provides scale and production, while the American side offers capital and advanced financial markets.

Production chains are diversifying, with manufacturing spreading across South-East Asia, India, and Mexico. Geopolitically, major powers are organizing strategies around this Indo-Pacific and hemispheric focus. The resulting strategic environment encourages developing nations across Latin America to seek diverse partnerships.

This growing demand for alternative trade and investment partners presents a key opening for Europe. For the continent, this trend is particularly relevant for emerging Europe. While internal projections for the Euro area and emerging Europe show moderate growth, the external opportunities presented by the Asia–Americas corridor are crucial.

This shift suggests that the future trajectory of economic development will be built along this trans-Pacific corridor, requiring emerging economies to strategically connect with global capital and technological hubs outside of traditional Western axes.
